Zinc Plating Process
Zinc plating process is a relatively sophisticated process covering following steps
√ Preparing and cleaning the surface — It's essential to thoroughly clean the surface of the substrate, and alkaline detergent is a popular solution.
√ Preparing the plating solution — It is referred as the plating bath, and the bath consists of the zinc metal ionic solution and various chemicals like acid zinc, alkaine zinc that facilitate plating processes.
√ Choosing the appropriate zinc plating procedure —Larger parts are affixed to metal racks, and then placed inside the tank containing the plating bath, and the smaller are placed inside a rotating barrel, which provides a more uniform finish.
√ Introducing the electrical current — A DC current originating at the anode is introduced into the bath and flows to the substrate, and the substrate serves as the cathode. When the current complete the circuit, and the zinc ions are then deposited onto the metal surface.
√ Post-treatment — Rinsing the parts in water to remove any remaining contaminants and plating bath remnants. If additional corrosion protection is required, the application of passivates and sealers can be included in the post-treatment process. Chromate treatments are used primarily to improve corrosion resistance, improve paint or adhesive bonding properties, and provide a decorative or colored finish. The Sealer chemically bonds with the chromate film to seal and harden chromate films as well as increase their adhesion to zinc surfaces.
√ Drying- The final step is to thoroughly dry the zinc-plated parts.
What Zinc Plating Thickness Do You Actually Need?
Based upon atmospheric corrosion table below, we give the following recommendation:

Application Of Zinc Plated Parts
Zinc plating is typically used for small fasteners, small plates, and various brackets that will be exposed in interior or mildly corrosive conditions. For use in moderate or severe environments, the materials must be chromate-conversion coated or hot dip galvanized for additional corrosion protection. Fabmann provides zinc plating service, and our experienced engineer will make sure that all the custom fabricated parts go through strict pre-treatment for sound zinc plating result, and we are serving the following industries:
√ Machinery and elevator
√ Equipment
√ Office furniture accessory
√ Trailer Parts
